Recipes:

BLOND FRUITCAKE

1 lb. butter, softened 1 1/2 oz. lemon extract
2 c. sugar 1 lb. pecan halves
6 egg yolks 1 lb. whole candied cherries
3 c. flour 1 lb. candied pineapple
1 lb. golden raisins 6 egg whites, stiffly beaten

Cream butter, sugar and egg yolks. Mix together flour, fruits, nuts and lemon extract. Add to creamed mixture. Fold in egg whites to above mixture.
Prepare 2 loaf pans (Bread size) by greasing them heavily. Dust with flour and line with parchment paper. Pack cake mixture into pans. Cake will rise only about 1/2 inch in all. Bake in 300 degree oven for 2 hours. Keep checking so they don't get too done. They will seem soft to the touch in the middle. They will set up after they cool. Take cakes out of pans and cool on rack. Wrap in foil and refrigerate or freeze. Slices best when cold.

CHOCOLATE DESSERT

Crust:
1 1/2 c. flour 18 Pecan Sandies
1/2 c. margarine OR 1/2 c. margarine or butter
1/2 c. chopped nuts 1/2 c. flour

Cut flour, margarine & nuts (or crushed cookies) together and pat into 9 X 13 baking dish. Bake 15 - 20 minutes in 350 degree oven. Chill before adding filling.

FILLING

1 - 8 oz. pkg cream cheese, softened
2/3 c. powdered sugar
1/2 carton (large) Cool Whip
Beat together well and put on top of the crust.

2 small pkgs. instant chocolate pudding
2 1/2 c. milk
Beat and pour on top of cream cheese mix. Top with rest of Cool Whip. Sprinkle with chopped nuts or crushed cookies. Chill
Thanks, Kathy

Hello girls,

Laurel M (Gracian's fiance) was just here and shared her recipe for Sugared Walnuts with me. It's easy, quick and delicious. I thought you might like to give it a try.

In a heavy fry pan (like a cast iron fry pan) boil together for 5 minutes: 1 Cup granulated sugar and 1/2 cup water. Then:

Stir in 1/2 lb. to 1 lb. walnuts and boil until the sugar turns white.

Stir in 1 teaspoon or more of vanilla flavoring. Pour out onto wax paper, spread evenly, and let cool.

Hope you enjoy.

PARTY!!

Christmas party reminder
Sat. Dec. 11th
Bring Food!!

Good evening ladies, for all day quilting on December 11, 2010, please bring something from home that you maybe have two of or have no use for wrapped as a Christmas present. We are going to play some sort of game at quilting using these gifts. Also, please bring some canned food to donate to the food bank at the church. Bring your favorite snack to share with the group. We are going to eat and sew!!!!

Keep on smiling, Kathy

PS: Of course, like everything else we do as a guild, those quilters who want to participate in playing a game can bring a wrapped item from home, and those who don't want to don't have to.

Thank you so much, Linda Sue

Nov. Meeting Minutes

Sagebrush Quilters
Meeting Minutes, November 13, 2010

Members were informed of the death of Linda E’s sister. The Guild sent a card of condolence and a donation to the family. A thank you card was received from Linda. It was passed around for all members to see.

Plans for a Christmas party for the Guild were discussed. The party was planned for the second Saturday in December, which is our regular All Day Quilting day. After some discussion it was decided to have snacks ( POT LUCK) and sew on that day. This was a unanimous decision. All members were asked to bring snacks for that day.
Everyone was asked to bring their ideas for next year’s challenge quilt to the meeting in December (12/11/10). We must have the ideas by then so we can choose a challenge and get started for next year’s July 4th Quilt show.

Paula N brought a tote full of 20’s and 30’s fabric from Debbie Norcross’s legacy. Everyone was asked to take an assortment of fabrics and make a small (no larger than 40 inches square) article, such as a table topper, wall hanging, etc. These items will be included in a small quilt show at the Library on April 1, which is Debbie’s birthday. Members are asked to be sure to put a sleeve for hanging on the back of their articles.

Quilting on Thanksgiving was discussed. Not enough people would be able to come so this was dropped.

Paula said that she had been approached by a member of the School Board. They are going somewhere for a meeting and wanted to know if the Guild could whip up something for them to take to this meeting. No one was interested.
Respectfully submitted.
Kathy H, 11/13/10

McGill 2nd Grade Pumpkin Cookies & Thank You to Sid

If you haven't received yours yet, Sid made some wonderful little Ditty/Gift bags for the guild members. All different fabrics & colors & they are just adorable. Thank you Sid!!!

McGill 2nd Grade Pumpkin Cookies

1 ½ C Margarine

1 ½ C Sugar

2 Eggs

1 ½ C Pumpkin

2 teaspoon Vanilla

¼ teaspoon Nutmeg

¼ teaspoon Allspice

½ teaspoon Cinnamon

4 C Flour (+1 for fresh pumpkin)

1 teaspoon Salt

1 ½ teaspoon Soda

4 teaspoon Baking Powder

1 bag of Chocolate Chips

Bake at a low 350 degrees for 10-12 minutes

or until edges are slightly brown. I put my rack 1 above the middle.

For white chips you’ll need to wash your baking pan after each pan, really. The white chips burn very, very easily.

Completely cool before stacking. Store with wax paper between layers.

Makes 4 dozen

Thanks, Paula
In a few days I will be moving this over to the recipe page!
I'm still having problems loading pictures, hopefully it will be fixed soon!

*** Home Made Starch Recipe from Paula;
Dissolve 1/2 teaspoon cornstarch w/ teaspoons of cold water in a 2-cup heat proof glass measuring cup. Boil 1-cup water and add to mixture, stir constantly. Mix will turn chalky white to milky translucent. Let cool to room temp, then add water to make 2 cups of solution. Put into spray bottle and shake well before each use. Because of no preservatives a new batch will need to be made every week.
See how that works for ya. I wonder if you can make 1/2 batches?

September All Day Quilting in Baker

Hello, quilters.
Marj Coffman has reserved the Senior Center in Baker for September's All Day Quilting.  T & D's Cafe, there in Baker, will prepare lunch and is excited for us to come.  I'm sure we can order in advance and they'll have it prepared.
Marj is referring to her Miniature Trip Around the World Quilt as "that horrible little quilt" so if anyone remembers how that goes together, maybe you would consider helping Marj that day.
For those of you who are new to the Guild, Marj came from Baker to Ely almost every All Day to quilt with us for many years. We never went there.  Marj no longer drives.  So now, we go to Baker to quilt with Marj once a year, for sure.
Please be kind enough to pass this info on to those quilters not having email.
Smiles to each of you.
Linda Sue

Quilt Guild Info for Thursday night & the quilt show...

Hello quilters,
If you don't have a pink, Sagebrush Quilter's Sweatshirt see Melody immediately.  Please be sure to wear your pink, Sagebrush Quilter's Sweatshirt to quilting on Thursday evening as we're having our picture taken for the newspaper.  It's our photo shoot for the Relay for Life Calendar sales.  200 calendars will be arriving Wednesday.  Mel will compose the article for the newspaper and she will get 6 advertising posters ready to put up around town.
None of the calendars can be released until you have signed for the amount you want to sell.   The number of calendars and the cash ($20.00 each) have to balance, so the calendars have to be accounted for.   Lin will have the sign up sheet available when the calendars are distributed.
Darlene will get in touch with Janet regarding using her Seal-a-Meal machine to seal all the calendars before any distribution.  The guild will reimburse Darlene for the use of her Seal-a-Meal materials.  Janet charged the calendars to her card and she will submit the bill to Lin for reimbursement.

                                          July 4th Quilt show update

Peggy will email Paula to let her know when she will be home so Paula can get the racks.  If you can go with Paula to help load them, please let her know asap.
We are planning to hang your quilts early on Thursday, July 1st.  Please offer 3 quilts if you can.   Lin will have both the quilt label sheets and the work sheets available soon.  The show is July 2, 3, 4, and 5.  We are planning a Hamburger BBQ Potluck for the workers - more info when available.
Remember, if you have a stuffed animal that goes along with your challenge quilt, please bring it so we can use it add to the decor?

A Quilters Swap & Shop

I've had a request for this & thought it was a really good idea. So I've added a 2nd page to our blog. Look for the tab at the top. It's like a quilters swap & shop for buying, selling, borrowing, gifting or trading quilt & craft related items your looking for or getting rid of.. To add something to the list you need to email a pictures if possible & or a description. You write up the ad & email it to Doris, myself or to the guild email address sagebrushqg@gmail.com  & we will get it added. If anyone is interested or has that item,  they need to look up that persons email or phone # on the guild roster & contact them. Personal emails or numbers will not be put on the blog, just names. So let the fun begin!!   Happy Quilting, Teresa

Service Project , Operation Pillowcase

Mostly for men but a few women in each unit to. I will be collecting & mailing them from our area. Melanie P. has already made 8!! And I made 18 so I will be getting them sent off next week.
